Flickr words…

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

This is great! Found this little tool by accident here. It basically creates any words you want using random public pictures in flickr. When I figure out how to change the banner on the top of my blog I might replace it with something like…

Who is Watching You?

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

Boy do I love the fact that my iPod is back up and running! Listened to this IT Conversations podcast by Jamais Cascio of the award winning World Changing Blog entitled the “Participatory Panoptican”. Sounds pretty heavy but it was right up my street. In it he talks about the camera phones and how these small gadgets are going to dramatically change the world as we know it. He touches on some of the things I mentioned in this post and this too, that I made last month.

The World Changing Blog is really good too. A collection of fantastic ideas and its general premise which is to try to connect together complimentary and synergistic fields that just haven’t gotten wind of each other yet, is something I’ve been thinking about for years. Its where the future’s at! I also quite like the “We don’t do negative reviews – why waste your time with what doesn’t work?” Damn right..lets leave the complaining to someone else.
Definitelyy check it out.

Speaking of changing the world. I met a documentary maker some time last week who was doing a piece on the Karma Banque. Its all about making big companies change the way they behave by attempting to change their stock prices. I don’t really understand it to be honest but the way he explained it…it kind of made sense at the time.

This effort by MIT is really interesting: making a $100 lap top for developing nations.

The future is definitely about collaboration and openness.

Bombs Return to London

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

It seems terrorists have returned to the London transport system as reports are now emerging on television networks around the world of bombs at Oval and Warren Street tude as well as on a bus at the Hackney Road/Columbia Road junction.

I’m OK…not caught up in it at all. Its my second last day at Henson’s and I’m safe in Camden.

Came accross this by accident while browsing around flickr the other day. Got in touch with the guy in the US and within 5 minutes he set up a flickr group pool so we can start BurgerClub fractions all over the world.

Its 2:20 am, I have a job interview in the morning and I haven’t eaten since lunch. If I look at another BurgerClub picture I might start to eat my duvet.

Join in the fun.

The end is near!

Monday, July 18th, 2005

The time has finally come…its my last week at the Creature Shop! I’m a little sad but mostly I’m looking forward to the next chapter of the thing we call life…that and all the pub lunches so I can say goodbye to the, err, 10 remaining staff.

My iPod is back in action. Thank god. Finally got down to the Apple store and they replaced the old one which had stopped syncing. I’m re-discovering all my regular podcasts. I’ve got so many to catch up on. It’s great! Adam Curry, Dave Winer, podbat podcasts, the hilarious Simulacrum…and a shed load of nerdy ITConversations.

The Creature Shop Catacombs Project

In June 2005, 3 vfx programmers disappeared in the catacombs of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, London UK while taking pictures they were to later post on their blogs.

27 days later their pictures were found.

Bags, bags and more bags…

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Another trip to work, another “is this your bag type” incident. It seems I’m not the only person who has decided speak up in unattended bag situations. A french guy next to me took the batton this morning and asked me whether the two sports bags at my feet were mine. I hadn’t actually noticed them as I was on the phone as I boarded. After I said no, we both looked at each other…paused… he then asked one side of the train carriage and I asked the other. It was kind of neat, we sort of knew exactly what to do. Sure enough two old timer american tourists were the culprits.

Dave Winer
linked to these two interesting articles about blogging and their possible unforseen consequences to the blogger: Blog now, regret it later? and Bloggers Need not Apply. Certainly worth a read if you’ve just started like myself. I was already well aware of these things but its nice to get reminded of them. All the more pertinent as I don’t have much longer here at the Creature Shop. I sense a job hunt on the horison….so if you fancy giving me a hand by like making me some offers Email me!
